I slogged through this book, not because it was a slow read, but because I wasn't in the mood for the depressing subject matter. I did like the style of writing and the interesting perspective of war time Germany. I'm glad I read it, but I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone, except maybe my kids when they get older.
I can definitely appreciate what this book is trying to do. Many people wonder why God allows so many horrible things to happen and I think this book does a great job helping to explain that. There are some who do not like this book because it contains parts that do not correspond with their own religious beliefs. While I can understand their disapproval, if you can put that aside and just read it for what it is, not a discourse on theology, but a simple story trying to bring people closer to a loving relationship with God, then this book could be well liked by people of any faith.
